gee. Celebrates His Birthday with a New Melancholic Neo-Soul/R&B EP “Loveless”

“Loveless” is the latest EP from Mississauga’s own gee., & his 11th contribution to his evergrowing discography. Releasing on his 32nd birthday, “Loveless” is his take on Neo-Soul/R&B, a big shift from his Hip Hop roots, although in line with his genre-bending capabilities.

Recent romantic life changes sparked a surge in the inspiration that birthed .gee’s new 3 song EP. Although the EP’s single “Call Your Ex” was written in 2016, the other 2 songs “No Good 4 Love” & “Aloha” were created mere months ago, back in November 2021. Rather than being written, both songs were instead freestyled & recorded on the spot in his home studio, which removes the element of meticulously meditated songwriting in substitution for the purest form of .gee’s thoughts & feelings captured at the moment. “Loveless” bypasses .gee’s usual clever wordplay & metaphors for a more lyrically raw & direct sentiment of heartbreak.

A far derivative from his previous 2020 FILCAN Music Award-winning double EP “Fauna Flora”, which had Tribal Hip Hop & Island Dance soundscapes, .gee pushes & explores his vocal range & ability to glide seamlessly between different sound styles throughout “Loveless”. “Call Your Ex” mirrors somber Neo-Soul Ballads, “No Good 4 Love” rides off rainy day Alt R&B vibes, & “Aloha” is a modern twist on ‘40s/’50s Doo Wop. Much like the rest of his discography, this EP was self Written, Recorded, Produced, Mixed & Mastered.

Following the release of “Loveless”, a music video for “Aloha” will drop shortly after, the album will be featured on a special episode of ISO Radio’s “White Lotus Radio” show, & will be performed at various music events throughout the GTA to promote the new EP.
