Waiting on Mercy: Piecing Together Life Through Raw, Powerful Rock

Founded in 2018, Waiting on Mercy is a Toronto-based rock band known for their emotionally intense and powerful sound. The band consists of lead vocalist Jezy Crescini, lead guitarist Adrian Dela Cruz Perlas, rhythm guitarist Marlon Mangsat, bassist Philip Alera, and drummer Aaron Valdez. Their mix of heartfelt lyrics and high-energy rock has earned them a growing fan base and made them a staple at various events in Canada. Their rise in popularity was highlighted when they were nominated for Group/Band of the Year at the 2022 FilCan Music Awards.
The band first garnered widespread attention with the release of their 2020 music video for “Life in Pieces,” a track praised for its raw emotional depth and relatable themes of personal struggle and loss. This success led to the release of their self-titled EP, Waiting on Mercy, which is now available on all major streaming platforms. Their most recent single, “Mona Lisa,” is already creating buzz and is set to have its music video debut in September 2024, further cementing their place in the North American rock scene.
Jezy Crescini, the band’s lead vocalist, has a personal connection to rock music that began during his childhood while growing up in the Middle East. Feeling isolated from his cultural heritage, he turned to rock as a form of emotional expression and connection. This sense of detachment and the emotional challenges he faced are reflected in many of the band’s songs, particularly “Life in Pieces,” which was originally written as a poem. The song explores the difficulty of holding onto memories while working through the pain of loss, an emotional honesty that resonates deeply with listeners. Jezy describes their sound as “in your face”—intense yet relatable, offering fans a way to connect through shared emotional experiences.
The band’s name, Waiting on Mercy, reflects their ethos of perseverance and hope, even when the outcome is uncertain. As Jezy explains, “You’re waiting on something, but it’s never coming.” This theme of enduring through tough times is central to the band’s message, encouraging listeners to embrace their struggles and find healing in the process. “The memories will always be real. Just go through the pain, and once you feel a little better, that’s when you know you’re healed.”
As Waiting on Mercy continues to make waves in Toronto’s music scene and beyond, their journey underscores the power of music to heal and connect. With a string of successful releases and notable nominations, the band is poised for even greater success.
